It's fun and can be rewarding. You'll get your name out there to new people who may become potential clients and colleagues because you'll be providing valuable content and not selling. Providing valuable content builds trust and credibility and markets your brand. What could be better for building your business as a speaker?
After all, you are the expert in something. As I always say, you are your own GURU. Why? Because GURU spells "Gee, You Are You!" And, when you share your expertise by blogging, you are sharing valuable information that can help people. It's a win/win.
But, let's explore writing a little further. While you are blogging everyday, consider ways that, as a speaker, you can profit from writing. Consider the following ideas:
Become a ghostwriter. If you are a good writer, there are opportunities to ghostwrite for those who can't or don't want to write. Be sure to do your research on how to get started, what to charge, and how to market yourself. Better yet, offer your services to a ghostwriting services company.
Become an editor. Are you good with grammar, sentence structure, and transitions? You should be because the same these are the same things you need when creating your presentations. There are a lot of writers out there and editors are in demand.
Be a resource for reporters at http://www.helpareporter.com/. It's free to sign up. Reporters are looking for experts to help them with their articles. They don't pay you, but if they use their article, they will typically mention your name and contact information that can lead to paid clients.
Do you have clients who have in-house magazines? Offer to create a series of educational articles (in your area of expertise of course) for a fee.
Become a columnist. You might start out for free or paid, but either way, you'll gain much more brand recognition and will gain paying clients. Contact newspapers and magazines for your industry (small or large) and offer your services. Be prepared to provide them with some sample topics and a sample of your work.
